The 6G-REFERENCE Coordinator Ignacio Llamas Presents our Project at the Europe-Korea Conference on Science and Technology 2025

The 6G-REFERENCE project was presented to a distinguished audience of European and Korean experts from academia and industry during the Europe-Korea Conference on Science and Technology (EKC 2025), held on 25-28 August 2025 in Vienna (Austria). This annual event fosters collaboration between Europe and Korea across a wide range of scientific and technological disciplines.

On Thursday, 28 August, Ignacio Llamas, the 6G-REFERENCE Coordinator from Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), delivered an invited talk titled “The 6G-REFERENCE Project: Vision and Overview”. The presentation took place from 11:00h to 11:20h during a session chaired by Dr. Jung Han Choi, Senior Project Manager at Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI). Attendees included representatives from both academia and industry, reflecting the conference’s emphasis on cross-sectoral collaboration.

Ignacio Llamas outlined the project’s vision, strategic objectives, and its role in shaping future 6G network architectures. His talk introduced the joint Europe-Korea audience to the goals and technological roadmap of 6G-REFERENCE, which is positioned as a key initiative contributing to the global 6G hardware landscape in urban areas. He spoke about:

  • The overview of 6G-REFERENCE
  • The 6G-REFERENCE hardware solutions and their relation to system level improvements and 6G goals
  • The 6G-REFERENCE Radio Unit (RU) concept
  • The 6G-REFERENCE use case scenarios
  • Radio Frequency (RF) and antenna components
  • Integrated Circuit (IC) development
  • The 6G-REFERENCE partners

Our coordinator CTTC maintains a strong collaborative relationship with Korean research institutions and companies, and participation in EKC 2025 further strengthens the bridge between European and Korean stakeholders in the 6G domain.

More about EKC 2025: Europe-Korea Conference on Science and Technology

Europe-Korea Conference on Science and Technology (EKC) has been the premiere conference for Korean and European engineers and scientists to present their recent achievements. Drawing participants from Korea and Europe, EKC seeks to develop new relationships, exchange knowledge and ideas and discuss recent progress and future trends in Science and Technology.

EKC 2025, the 17th EKC, was hosted by the Korean Scientists and Engineers Association in Austria (KOSEAA) together with the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST) and eight other Korean Scientists and Engineers Associations in Europe which are in Germany (VeKNI), United Kingdom (KSEAUK), France (ASCoF), Finland (KOSES), Scandinavia (KSSEA), the Netherlands (KOSEANL), Switzerland (KSEAS), and Belgium (KOSEAbe). Since its first successful start in 2008 in Heidelberg (Germany) EKC has been held annually in different European countries and has become the most important scientific and social event, bringing scientists and engineers from Europe and Korea together.

This year’s theme was Global Innovative Frontiers: Bridging Research and Industry Exploring Fundamentals and Driving Prosperity.
