6G-REFERENCE participated in the XLI National Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI 2026), held from 2 to 4 September 2026 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife, Spain, leading the Special Session “M.3.2: NextG and 6G System”.
Zabdiel Brito-Brito, Researcher at Centre Tecnològic de Telecommunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), the organisation coordinating our project, chaired the session in Aula 0.2 on 2 September, attended by approximately 20 participants, including around five researchers alongside a larger group of students. He presented two scientific publications:
- Temperature Sensor Based on a Microstrip Ring Resonator Covered with PDMS (“Sensor de Temperatura basado en un Resonador de Anillo de Microcinta cubierto con PDMS”)
- Temperature Sensor Based on a Substrate-Integrated Waveguide Resonator with Embedded PDMS (“Sensor de Temperatura basado en un Resonador de Guía de Onda Integrada en Sustrato con PDMS embebido”)
These two contributions presented at URSI 2026 focused on the development of microwave temperature sensors based on resonant structures and provided an important step towards the environmental sensing capabilities being developed within 6G-REFERENCE.

“I explained that the 6G-REFERENCE project involved developing communication enablers, including the fabrication of a Full-Duplex communication chip and antenna arrays operating in the FR3 frequency band (15 GHz), as well as incorporating ISAC (Integrated Sensing and Communication) capabilities. This latter aspect involved not only radar development but also environmental sensing, which was the specific focus of the two papers. We provided an integrated sensing solution using 15 GHz resonators capable of temperature sensing. These served as preliminary results for the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), a key project enabler, with the system designed to interface with the chip developed by our partners at CEA-Leti.” – Zabdiel Brito-Brito, Researcher at CTTC.
URSI 2026: XLI National Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science
The XLI National Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI 2026), organised by Universidad de La Laguna (Tenerife, Spain), brought together researchers, academics, students and professionals working across the fields of radio science, electromagnetics, antennas, microwave technologies and wireless communications.
Since 1980, the URSI conference has served as the key technical forum for researchers, companies, and technologists in the ICT sector, as well as the principal annual event of the Spanish National Committee of URSI.
The conference provided an opportunity for 6G-REFERENCE to engage directly with the radio science community and share the project’s latest results.
