The 6G-REFERENCE project attended the Mobile World Congress 2024 in the Spanish city of Barcelona, from the 26th to the 29th of February. Since our aim is to improve coherent wireless communication and sensing beyond what is currently possible with 5G in urban areas, at 6G-REFERENCE we could not miss this relevant date.
Ignacio Llamas, our coordinator from Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), represented our project together with Carles Anton Haro, Director or R&D Programmes at CTTC. They were at the stand 220 – booth 37 – Congress Square of Fira Barcelona to network with the MWC 2024 attendees and to explain to them why and how we target practical integrated circuits and antenna systems for 6G applications.
We shared the CTTC stand with other projects: 5G-STARTDUST, VERGE and 6G-NTN.
Since MWC 2024 was the first project attended by our coordinator and some of our consortium partners, we prepared a flyer and a roll-up to explain how we will develop 6G hardware enablers for cell free coherent communications and sensing.
During the event, we felt very honored by the visit of the executive team from the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) office to the CTTC booth: Erzsébet Fitori, Javier Albares and Chiara Mazzone.

About 6G-REFERENCE
6G-REFERENCE envisions a future where urban areas are equipped with sustainable solutions that can cope with the ever-increasing traffic demands and population densification, while providing disruptive capabilities like the materialization of the internet of sense.
With the aim of improving coherent wireless communication and sensing beyond what is currently possible with 5G in urban areas, 6G-REFERENCE will:
- Develop integrated circuit and antenna component solutions, including dynamic frequency filtering and modulated radiation, to enable efficient spectrum coexistence schemes.
- Deploy practical hardware enablers in terms of low complexity, cost and power consumption that could end up constituting a reference design for future 6G-distributed radios.
6G-REFERENCE is an EU-funded Research and Innovation project part of the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) spanning three years, initiated in January 2024. Teamed by ten partners from eight European countries.
