6G-REFERENCE Presents the Project Goals at the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2024

The 6G-REFERENCE consortium attended the EuCNC & 6G Summit in Antwerp, Belgium, from the 3rd to the 6th of June 2024, to present the project goals.

During the 4-day event, our coordinator Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), represented by Ignacio Llamas and Zabdiel Brito, and our partner University of Twente (UT), represented by Erick Klumperink, spoke about the 6G-REFERENCE project objectives, activities and goals at the booth number 68.

There, we had our flyers and two posters to explain to the visitors our vision in which urban areas are equipped with sustainable solutions that can cope with the ever-increasing traffic demands and population densification, while providing disruptive capabilities like the materialization of the internet of sense.

Besides explaining our two posters about how we will deploy 6G hardware enablers for cell free coherent communications and sensing, the 6G-REFERENCE partners also enjoyed networking with with the 6G ecosystem. Our colleagues Nikolaos Bartzoudis from Verge-project and Mikko A. Uusitalo from Hexa-X-II visited us to find potential project synergies and collaborations.

The 6G-REFERENCE presentation at the EuCNC & 6G Summit

On Wednesday, the 5th of June, at 10:30h, Eric Klumperink, from University of Twente, our Technical Manager leading our Work Package 3 ‘Circuit design and modelling’, presented the 6G-REFERENCE goals, and explained how we envision a 6G system with cell free distributed MIMO, with radio units without fiber access. He also spoke about the trends towards 6G and hardware challenges:

Cell-free joint communication and sensing systems operating at the 10-15GHz range will play a vital role in future 6G networks, especially in urban scenarios where 6G will need to rely on a sustainable solution to cope with the ever-increasing traffic demands and population densification, while providing disruptive capabilities like the materialization of the internet of sense.

About the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2024 – ‘6G: From Vision to Reality’

The 2024 EuCNC & 6G Summit is the 33rd edition of a successful series of a conference in the field of telecommunications, focusing on various aspects of 5G and 6G communications systems and networks under the theme ‘6G: From Vision to Reality‘.

The 2024 EuCNC & 6G Summit builds on putting together two successful conferences in the area of telecommunications: EuCNC (European Conference on Networks and Communications), supported by the European Commission, and the 6G Summit, originated from the 6G Flagship programme in Finland, one of the very first in its area.

The conference is sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) and the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP), and focuses on all aspects of telecommunications ranging from 5G deployment and mobile IoT to 6G exploration and future communications systems and networks, including experimentation and testbeds, and applications and services. It brings together cutting-edge research and world-renown industries and businesses, globally attracting in the last years more than 900 delegates from more than 40 countries all over the world, to present and discuss the latest results, and an exhibition with more than 50 exhibitors, for demonstrating the technology developed in the area, namely within research projects from EU R&I programmes.
